Staff at The Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services in New York will gather on Monday, October 31st at 2:00 pm, for Sharsheret’s The Impact of Culturally Competent Cancer Care. The one hour training webinar addresses the importance of psychosocial support and culturally competent care for cancer patients. We all know cancer takes a physical toll, but we don’t always realize the psychosocial and spiritual impact cancer causes. Social service agencies like The Jewish Board are uniquely positioned to offer services that are otherwise difficult to find. The training explores the issues through the example of Jewish women facing breast cancer. The training includes topics such as increased hereditary risk for Jewish community, and cultural, religious and spiritual issues that may impact detection, treatment or survivorship, and how to best offer support to those impacted by cancer. Woven throughout the presentation will be examples of how this information is relevant to many other communities. Participants will also learn about the free resources Sharsheret can provide to all breast and ovarian cancer patients.
